FAQS; PHOTO SHOOTS

Learn More about the photoshoot

The Studio is located at 80 Boundary Road, Carshalton, Surrey SM5 4AB, strictly by appointment.  Please note that no photography or filming is allowed in the studio - other than by the photographer!

Below is some guidance on your photo shoot – if you have any other questions, please either call or email me.

• I would spend 5 minutes to get to know you and the sitters, settle you in and understand what you would like to get out of the session.

• The session is as informal as you want it to be.  Please be as natural as you can be and relaxed - the best shots are usually those taken towards the end of the photoshoot!  If there is a particular shot that you would like during the session, do let me know. If you are celebrating a family event or you would like a particular ‘theme’ for your photo shoot, please contact me before the session.

• If there are more than 5 people in your party for the photo session, you may need to book more than 1 hour. If this is the case, please contact me directly.

• Do wear whatever you or the sitters feel more comfortable with, want to be remembered by or whatever represents the character, look, appearance, etc. More than one change of clothes is allowed for photoshoots of 2 hours or more.

• If you would like to be photographed in your traditional clothes, you may want to bring one change.  I would recommend that adults avoid wearing shorts during the summer.

• The studio is equipped with toys and props, but for outdoor photoshoots I can bring along a small number of items, so please feel free to bring any personal accessories (eg hats, toys, balloons, their favourite toy/blanket) and also some items for children to wear if they want to (eg, hats, masks, etc).

Choose colours carefully and ensure that for group photos the colours do not clash. Pale or pastel colours work generally best together. For outdoor photo shoots, please avoid green in spring/summer - and white. Please avoid wearing white for studio photography.  If you need ideas on what colours work best with, let me know and I can send you a link to my Colours and Patterns board on Pinterest.

• For children outdoor photoshoots, please ensure that you have a bottle of water for the children. Also, please bring wipes and a change of clothes (in case the children’s clothes get dirty or soiled during the photoshoot). If you have a picnic blanket that you would like to use, please feel free to bring that along. In hot and sunny days, children should wear light suncream, but we will be shooting in half-shaded areas. Children should wear comfortable shoes appropriate for the season, weather and location.  For photoshoots in the bluebell or lavender fields, please choose complementary colours to blue (peach, orange, light blue, light purple, yellow, apricot).

• If you or any of the sitters wear glasses, do think whether you would like some shots without/with your glasses.

• Ladies should wear gentle make-up around the eyes, avoiding black and harsh lines (especially under the eyes). Make-up should be left to a minimum, but a tint of lipstick never does any harm!

• If any sitter has any allergies or any medical condition or has any special requirements that I should be made aware of, please let me know before the photo session. I reward children with sweets either during or at the end of the session, with the parents’ permission.

• For pet photography, bring your pet’s favourite toy, lead and his/her favourite blanket. A water bowl will be made available at the studio.

• Please remember that the photo session is an opportunity to have a fun experience and capture beautiful moments. A session with children will be playful and they will be encouraged to play games, give mum & dad/grandparents a big hug, etc. Children will not be encouraged to say ‘cheese’ as this will result in an unnatural smile.

Small children (under 3) may get fractious if too much noise is made around them during the photo session or if they receive instructions from different people at once. A way around this is to create calmness; I tend to speak quietly to them or let them take a break and, if necessary, have a snack halfway through the session, but not at the start.

• Please do remember that you are responsible for your children during the photo session and, especially in an outdoor session that you must keep a watchful eye over them and keep them safe at all times.

** Don’t forget to bring a smile and have fun! **
